Little Lives Photography bio picture

Hi there, I'm elaine.

I'm so glad you're here!

I know what it’s like to want really great photos of your kids. Photos that make you chuckle, remembering exactly what it was like to chase that two-year-old around the kitchen. Photos that make you sigh, remembering just how that newborn held her little mouth in a pucker when she slept. Photos that make you pause, remembering those times in your child’s life that have passed all-too-quickly. These are the moments that I like to capture. It's the little moments that mean the most.

Baby Blues | Indianapolis Baby Photographer

Oh, my.  This little guy.  I’ve had the good fortune of being able to photograph several very good-natured babies recently…and Mr. B was certainly no exception.  He also happened to sleep through the night for the first time last night, and followed it with a monster morning nap, so in spite of the fact that I’m sure he was just stunned in general (”what TIME is it?”) and had me hovering over him for an hour or so with a giant black contraption, he was just as cute as they come.  Don’t you agree?

And then there’s baby hands and feet.  Seriously.  They kill me.

And, my new favorite image.  I love it because he’s so unbelievably cute in it.  But besides that, apparently I have a strong need for approval (even from babies who don’t really know me), because when I look at it, it makes me think I am as funny as I think I am.  And that makes a girl feel good.  What can I say?  Issues.

That, and his parents (and big sisters) are truly some of the most amazing people around, and we hung around this morning and it was just all around a good time.  Thanks, guys.

Playing Catch Up | Indianapolis Children’s Photographer

I haven’t forgotten about these beautiful kids;  but they haven’t gotten the attention they deserve on my blog!

First, here are three completely lovely kids; and very nearly the nicest ones ever.  Polite as can be and pretty much willing to do whatever.  Sometimes I say this about every kid I photograph…but I mean it every time; check out the eyes on these three!

And then these precious twins from Chicago…very, very busy and as sweet as can be.  They were a little fussy from time to time (and who wouldn’t be when some strange woman is bossing you around for a few hours?) but they warmed up to me and we got some great shots.  Actually, I think it would be tough to get bad shots of these two, don’t you agree?

And last, but by no means least, this group of troopers.  I’m sure they were tired of me asking for “just one more shot” but were so cooperative.  I could shoot these three for days…they are gorgeous and so photogenic.  There wasn’t a bad image in the bunch!

The Little Prince | Indianapolis Baby Photographer

When you meet little Mr. K., you can see why his family swoons over him.  He is as adorable as he is charming; and I think the girls need to watch out once he understands how gorgeous his eyes are.  Oh, and that skin…as smooth as all get out and the color of a latte…wow!  Maybe I was a bit smitten.

Check out these eyes…

And the skin.  I mean really.  You could make a cool million if you could bottle whatever it is that makes a baby’s skin like that…

Just Up the Street | Carmel Newborn Photographer

I love shooting little ones in my neighborhood…it’s so convenient and I love the idea of seeing my clients out and about!  I was lucky enough to capture some images of a precious little newborn and his family last night; he of course did what most newborns do (this is definitely the rule, not the exception)…he sensed that I wanted him asleep, so he kept those little eyes open for as long as he ever has!  I often hear, “I swear!  He’s never been awake this long!”  I think it’s so funny.  Eventually, though, he conked out and here’s one I love love love…

Can you see the gorgeous canvas of Mom, pregnant, in the background?  Wow.  And speaking of Mom, let me just say wow again.  Mother of four, the baby is just a little over a week old, and she is a KNOCKOUT.  And, she’s got such amazing personality as well.  Just look how beautiful she is…

And then just a couple of the two sweet girls, just for fun…they were delightful!  Big sister had a lot to say, and is clearly a huge help to Mom, and little sister had a lot to say as well (even if I couldn’t always understand it!) and was just as cute as a button.  In this image, she is noticing the early evening moon…so cute.

And big sister…telling me all about her busy upcoming summer schedule…what a doll!

In Front of the Lens | Zionsville Children’s Photographer

When my friend Danielle Thompson, of Danielle Marie Photography asked me to do a family shoot for her, I thought it sounded great.  She’s so sweet, the kids are gorgeous and I assumed her husband was a good guy (LOL) so I wasn’t worried.  Fast forward to this morning…let’s just say I had worked myself into a good bit of nervousness heading into this one.  Families aren’t my specialty and for goodness’ sake she’s a photographer…but never underestimate the power of a good-looking group to make you feel good about your images.  Afterward, Danielle told me she was out of her comfort zone as well…it’s a lot of pressure for someone normally behind the lens to suddely be in front of it!  But not to worry…the kids were completely lovely, with no complaining at all, and her husband good-naturedly followed me all over Zionsville for a good chunk of the morning.  And Danielle, well…you’ll see what I mean.  Beautiful…seriously.  Two kids and this girl’s still got it.

The kids were happy to be getting a mid-session snack of some popcorn we brought along…but it was here that I saw that the kids come by being so good-natured so honestly…as the little Miss D was cramming popcorn into her Dad’s mouth, he was quietly noting, “I really don’t like popcorn.”  It was super funny.  That, and Danielle has a wicked arm when it comes to tossing a piece of popcorn into somebody’s mouth…

And these Mr. C happily tried out my vintage polaroid camera (which, by the way, weighs at least 15 pounds, so this was no small task).  The funny thing was he kept turning the camera over and having me look through the viewfinder to “see” his picture…

And lastly, there’s nothing like a little girl (and sucking her thumb, to boot)…clearly Mom and Dad have a special spot in their hearts for her.  And how could you not?

Double Trouble… | Indianapolis Twins Photographer

I had the amazing opportunity of shooting two sets of twins this weekend, and another set of sisters so close in age they might as well be twins!  They couldn’t have been any cuter…and they were on the move.  I’ll blog about the weekend sessions in Chicago a little later, but I wanted to give a sneak peek to the fabulous family I met yesterday.

First, let me give you a visual representation of the weekend.  I think you’ll understand why we had our hands full trying to get these images…

That about sums it up.  :)

But, we did manage to capture some shots of this quick little beauty…

Can you tell she’s contemplating escaping from me?  She is.

And then there is her twin sister who is possibly the most expressive baby I’ve ever met, if not the most expressive child.  She was mad.  Then cracked herself up.  All in about the span of 30 seconds. Hilarious.

What a ball!

On the Road | Indianapolis Dog Photographer

Today I am doing several sessions in Chicago; it’s truly a day of “little” lives!

To start with, I had the pleasure of meeting the sweetest little dachsund today…and by “little,” I mean TINY.  She is just a peanut of a thing!  Her personality, though, trumps her size.  She wanted to be very sure to let me know whose turf this was, and wasn’t shy about it!  We hoped to tucker her out to get some sleeping shots, but she remained vigilant the whole time.  No shut-eye for her!

Meet sweet Miss Greta.

Initally she wasn’t so sure about being perched on the furniture, but she was such a good sport!

What a little doll.  Thanks, Greta, for putting up with me today!

Mini-Sessions | Indianapolis Children’s Photographer

I’m looking forward to these two days full of cute kids!  Please e-mail me at elaine@littlelivesphotography.com for available time slots for your mini-session.

Me, Handsome? | Carmel Children’s Photographer

And here’s the big brother to the precious little guy from yesterday.  Mr. A here is about as sweet as they come and got thoroughly bossed around by our six-year-old daughter during the entire visit without a single complaint.  And he’s gorgeous, to boot.

Hmmm… | Indianapolis Children’s Photographer

I’m just posting one here…I’ve taken such a break from blogging that I have to take baby steps back into it.  What better way than with this little cutie?  I had the pleasure of spending a good chunk of spring break with this guy’s fabulous family.  This one makes me want to go right back to North Carolina…
